Updated: Feb 10

As we all know, Scotland is well-known for its travel-orientated attractions. A country that pulls in people from all over the globe. We have something for just about everyone. Whether you’re looking for a serene escape into the countryside or a bustling adventure in some of the big cities of Scotland. We have it all! The real question is… Why visit Biggar, Scotland, specifically?

Less Crowded Than Major Tourist Hubs #2: How Biggar Blends Seclusion & Convenience.

A More Affordable Stay #3: Value For Your Money.

Everything is Walkable #4: Local Attractions Right at Your Doorstep.

The Practical Side of Biggar.

The small and charming town of Biggar, Scotland, is perfectly situated just 45 minutes outside of Edinburgh (the capital city of Scotland) and 1 hour from Scotland's largest city (Glasgow). This makes our B&B in Biggar a cosy and convenient place to explore the rich history of Scotland's bustling cities or serene countrysides. It's an excellent stop for travellers looking to explore any direction of Scotland, all whilst having a cosy and historic place to return back to, spend the night,

and enjoy a hearty homemade Scottish breakfast!

Less Crowded

Than Major Tourist Hubs.

Some of the major tourist hubs of Scotland tend to be pretty crowded depending on where you go.

For example, Edinburgh is the most visited city in Scotland, and rightfully so. The city is incredibly rich in history and culture, with the earliest known human habitation of the area dating back over 8,000 years, and with it first being recognised as the city 900 years ago in 1124, when King David I created the royal burgh of Edinburgh. This makes it one of the oldest in Scotland.

This place is perfect for all sorts of travellers. Whether you're a history buff, a couple looking for a fun and romantic weekend away, or a family looking for fun for the whole family! Whilst staying in the heart of Edinburgh may be somewhat convenient... It also comes with cons.

The commotion of the city can be overwhelming. With the attractions of the city clamouring

for your attention. Not really giving you a chance to escape and see both sides of Scotland.

(the cities & countrysides). This is where The Old Mill, Bed & Breakfast comes into play!

The town of Biggar offers a peaceful, authentic Scottish experience without the crowds.

But still within arm's reach of the action that Edinburgh or Glasgow offers.

A More Affordable Stay.

It's a no-brainer that prices tend to be substantially higher when booking a stay

in the heart of a tourist area, especially when your time away is during the holiday seasons.

This leaves budget travellers with only a few options:

1. Hunt for cheap options that may lack basic amenities.

2.  Go over budget in order to find a place to stay.

3. Find alternative accommodation options not far outside of Edinburgh.

4. Reschedule your holiday for a less busy time.

This is where we hope to help! At The Old Mill, Bed & Breakfast... We pride ourselves

on our affordable prices. Aiming to give our guests the opportunity to cut their travel costs down, all whilst still enjoying the local attractions of Biggar and the surrounding area! On top of that... We can also assure each of our potential guests that seasonal prices don't apply to our B&B.

This again is to keep the convenience of our bed & breakfast the exact same all year round.

Everything Is Walkable.

One of the biggest advantages of staying in Biggar is how easy it is to navigate and get around solely by foot. If you're staying and travelling through the big and busy cities of Scotland, then you most likely will have to rely on buses, taxis, or expensive parking. Biggar, however, sits at the opposite end of this. This cosy, compact town is perfect in this navigational sense! Practically everything is within walking distance.

When staying at our B&B in Biggar, you'll find comfort in the fact that Biggar High Street is just a 5-minute walk from our accommodation. This high street is the central hub of the town. A historical area that dates back to the year 1451, when Biggar was made a burgh of barony. Upon this high street, you'll find a number of local attractions. From quaint shops, cosy cafés, and restaurants to small-scale theatres, museums, and historical landmarks. Biggar is a one-size-fits-all type of town!

For a more detailed description of Biggar's history... Go to our location page.

Are you more of a nature/outdoors person? Perfect! Biggar offers beautiful walking trails found all over the town. Like Bizzyberry Hill, the Boating Pond, and the Burn Braes Park, just to name a few.

Although it may not be in walking distance... The popular hiking spot of Tinto Hill is found just 10 miles from our property. If you're comfortable in your physical abilities...

Then Tinto Hill might be for you. On average, it takes between 2 and 4 hours to traverse.

The beauty of Biggar is endless. From its blend of seclusion and convenience to its walkability and local attractions! Biggar offers just about everything for just about everyone!

If it doesn't? Edinburgh is right on your doorstep.
